Garnet or Gomed Astrology

Garnets have been used since Stone Age by mankind. It is used for astrological purposes. There are many types of Garnets like pyrope, almandine, spessartine, grossular- which is Hessonite and Tsavorite, Uvavorite and Andradorite.

Hessonite is grossular type of garnet stone and it differs in chemical composition from other garnet. Garnets are available in many colors like yellow, pink, violet, red, orange, black, and colorless.

Hessonite is a garnet family stone but it is different in chemical composition. It is found in cinnamon color, Brown red color, brown and red color. They are used for different purposes in astrology.

Where Hessonite is used for Rahu the other garnets are used for other planet. Red Garnet is mainly used for Sun which rules the sign Leo. Hessonite is used for Rahu, the demon head.

Hessonite or Gomed gemstone should be worn on a Saturday in the uniform pattern of Swati, Arudra and Shatbhisha. If these patterns does not occur at the required time and still it is important to wear the Hessonite then you are supposed to wear it on any Shukla Paksha Saturday in the Hora of Saturn. Hessonites must be forged in silver rings or pendants. A penta alloy i.e. an amalgamation of 5 metals is also favourable in some cases and setting Gomed stone in gold must be avoided until and unless it is recommended.

The chemical composition of Hessonite or Gomed stone is Calcium Aluminium Silicate (Ca3 Al2 {SiO4}3) possessing the specific gravity of 3.65 and the refractive index ranging between 1.742 - 1.748. This gemstone takes its chemical composition from grossularite. The limestone deposits all across the world are the sources of Hessonite.
