In a pooja room, there are idols of god's placed with flowers, lights, candles and diyas which bring positivity and create a holy atmosphere. Earlier, it used to be a large room where all the deities and idols were kept, but nowadays, people prefer a small area for the temple in the house.

The temple at home, also known as mandir in India, is a sacred place where we worship God. So, a pooja room vastu will bring positive energy and make the place peaceful. The mandir direction in home and the temple area, when placed according to Vastu Shastra, can bring health, prosperity, and happiness to the house and its occupants.
The best direction for placing the mandir or temple at home is the north-east direction or Ishan kona, which is considered auspicious according to Vastu Shastra. Although a separate pooja room vastu recommended would be ideal, this is not always possible in metropolitan cities, where there is space crunch. For such homes, you can consider wall-mounted mandir or small corner mandir as per your requirement.
As per the pooja room Vastu direction, the pooja room's position is critical in describing its auspicious aura. The optimal route is north-east, followed by east and north. If you are designing a new home and have influence over where your pooja room will be located, we strongly advise you to avoid the basement or higher floors of the building. Many people believe that pooja rooms should be on the first floor or any other convenient place. But, according to Vastu Shastra, the right place for a room is on the ground floor, neither basement nor first floor. Basement is considered a dark place and having a pooja room in the dark is not a good option. Similarly, constructing a temple on the first floor encourages laziness, inactivity and lethargy which is again wrong. Thus, to worship God, come to the ground and pray for betterment. In case, there is no space for the construction of a temple; you can always place a small temple in the north-east direction. Avoid south directions as it is considered inauspicious.
Make a small shelf near the temple to store incense, puja supplies, and holy books. Avoid storing unwanted objects or dustbins under the temple. Nothing should be kept above the idols. Just use copper vessels for water.
he temple must be placed high, such that the feet of the idols placed should be at the level of the devotee's chest. Never place the idol on the floor. Ideally, the idol should not be more than 10 inches. Ensure that the idols are not placed in a cramped manner. The idol of Lord Ganesh should be placed on the left side of Goddess Lakshmi. The idols should be in the sitting position and should be kept on a 'chowki'. According to the pooja room vastu, idols should not face each other.
If you are using a wooden temple, ensure a dome structure on its top and ensure that the entry towards the puja room has a threshold. If an idol is damaged, replace it and never keep broken idols in the temple.
A two-shutter door is ideal, as per pooja room vastu. In such cases, the idol should not be facing the door directly.
