Hanuman is one of the most powerful and popular deities of Hinduism and considered the patron God in wrestling. Hindus celebrate the Hanuman Janmotsav or the birthday of Hanuman with a grand festival known as Hanuman Jayanti. In most parts of India, the auspicious festival of Hanuman Jayanthi is celebrated on the full moon day (Purnima) of the Chaitra month which usually befalls in March or April of the English calendar. But, moving towards south India, it is celebrated on different dates in different states. In Tamil Nadu and Kerala, it is observed on the Margashirsha Amavasya (new moon day) whereas, in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, it is observed on the 10th day, in the Krishna Paksha of Vaisakha month. Karnataka celebrates this auspicious festival on the Shukla Paksha Trayodashi (13th day) of Margashirsha month and, Odisha, the eastern state of India celebrates Hanuman Jayanti on the 1st day of the month of Vaisakha (in April).
According to mythology, Lord Hanuman is an incarnation of Lord Siva (11th Rudra) and the most powerful being in all the realms. Hindu devotees worship Him as the epitome of devotion, faith, valor, strength, energy, and selfless love. Lord Hanuman is one of the prominent heroes and a central character of the Hindu super epic Ramayana. According to the epic, He is a Vanara (a monkey-like humanoid form) and took birth to assist Lord Ram.
Lord Hanuman is a widely worshipped deity and has the ability to attain victory against all evils and provide protection to all His devotees. On the auspicious day of Hanuman Jayanthi, devotees visit Hanuman temples and offer prayers. Lord Hanuman was born at the time of sunrise, so, after a holy bath in the early morning devotees perform various rituals before the dawn itself. They apply red tilak (vermillion) on the forehead of Hanuman idol, chant different hymns and mantras, read Hanuman Chalisa, offer Diya, Coconut and more.
On Hanuman Jayanti, people observe fast, meditate and practice charity. They also read the Hanuman Chalisa. Hanuman Jayanti is very auspicious for wrestlers and bodybuilders. Bodybuilding and wrestling competitions are organized in the villages.
The devotees visit Hanuman temples on this day in the early morning, apply vermillion on Hanuman idol, recite Hanuman Chalisa, offer Prasad of laddoo, and perform Aarti by chanting mantras. After the puja, people apply red Sindur to their own foreheads and distribute laddoo Prasad among the people.
In Tamil Nadu and Kerala, Hanuman Jayanti is celebrated in Margazhi month due to the belief that Lord Hanuman was born on Amavasya in the Margazhi month. In Odisha, it is celebrated on 1st day in the month of Baisakha. In Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, Hanuman Jayanti is celebrated on the tenth day of Vaishaka month.
Devotees worship Lord Hanuman as a divine creature. This celebration has lots of importance to Brahmacharis, wrestlers, and bodybuilders. He is known by many names such as Bajrangabali, Pavanasuta, Mahavira, Balibima, Anjanisut, Sankat Mochan, Anjaneya, Maruti, Rudra and much more. Hanuman is the 11th Rudra avatar of Lord Shiva. He has devoted his life for Lord Rama and Sita. The devotees of the Lord Hanuman pray him for their bright future.

As per another legend, a great sage Angira went to visit the king Indra. He was welcomed with the dance performance that was presented by a damsel, Punjiksthala. However, Sage was not interested in the dance, and he started meditating. Later, he was asked by the Indra about the performance of dance. He replied I was in deep meditation to my Almighty because I have no interest in such dance. Damsel started disappointing the sage. Hence, she was cursed by the Angira, you shall degrade to earth from heaven. You will be born as a female monkey in the mountain forests".
She then felt sorry and regretted. The merciful saint supported her through blessings, "A great devotee of Lord will be born to you. He will forever serve Lord". Later, she was born as a daughter of Kunjar (king of the monkeys) and got married to Kapiraj Kesari of the Mount Sumeru. She gave birth to Hanuman. It is believed that Lord Shiva took rebirth as a human being on the earth as Hanuman because he could not serve to Lord Rama by being in his real form. The Vanaras were happy and celebrated his birthday with great enthusiasm.
In Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, the day is called Hanuman Jayanthi and the celebrations last for 41 days starting with Chaitra Purnima and ending on the tenth day during Krishna Paksha in Vaishakha month. In Tamil Nadu, on the other hand, the day is called Hanumath Jayanthi and observed during Margashirsha Amavasya. In Karnataka, Hanuman Jayanti is known as Hanuman Vratam.
: As per the teachings of Puranas, the followings are few sacred mantras to praise Lord Hanuman. Reciting these mantras as well as Hanuman Chalisa 108 times brings positive results and helps to regain strength and confidence.
